Nori language

Nori, the language

A low-level programming language aiming at C's speed with memory safety by default: no garbage collector, and no lifetimes for the programmer to prove. The compiler does the proving, and spends its time erasing what safety costs.

Coming soon. Nori is young and changing fast, and its repository is not public yet. This site will have the language reference, the standard library and the compiler when it is.

What it builds today

Nori's compiler, noric, compiles itself, and has its own code generator, linker and debug-information writer: it needs no C toolchain. It builds an entire operating system, NoriOS: the kernel, its drivers, its desktop, and the DLLs its Windows programs load.

Where it aims

Data-oriented systems software: engines, simulation, signal processing, machine-learning kernels, codecs, renderers, databases. On numerical code it aims at hand-tuned speed from plain-looking source, memory-safe by default.

This site is itself a Nori program: it is served by nori-web, built with noric.
